Osteopathy, and Sport, How it Works
The
human body is a dynamic entity that delivers its agency through
movement. As an Osteopath I believe that enabling a person to deliver
the most from their active body is key to my role. This is particularly
true of sports people.
My
Approach to Osteopathy is focussed on understanding the patient’s
dynamic chain, looking at how they move, from their foot to their
head.
I
will take a detailed history, paying particular attention to changes in
training or performance around the time of injury and always look for
why this patient, why this problem and why now? This ensures that I not
only address the point of pain, but the underlying mechanism by which
the injury occurred.
Wherever
possible I will try and view the person performing their sport and
liaise with coaches and trainers in trying to establish an appropriate
strategy for return to full competition or competitive
improvement.
I
am integrative in my approach, taking the best elements from other
disciplines and applying them within the osteopathic framework.
I
will often prescribe exercises and build personalised orthotics to
assist in patients' recovery and performance improvement.
